About Us

Fieldwise Institute was founded in response to the growing concern described in the scientific literature as the “extinction of experience” among ecologists — a phenomenon in which increasing administrative, regulatory, and technological demands reduce time spent developing deep field expertise (Soga M, Gaston K 2025).

Professional field ecologists are pulled into expanding compliance, reporting, and data management responsibilities, opportunities to cultivate advanced observational and taxonomic skills have diminished.

Fieldwise Institute was created to address this gap.

Fieldwise Institute strengthens field competency so that conservation practitioners can operate at the highest professional standard — accurately identifying species, making informed ecological determinations, and contributing meaningfully to biodiversity conservation.

We provide advanced, field-based professional training in:

  • Plant and wildlife taxonomy

  • Rare, threatened, and endangered species identification

  • Species handling protocols and regulatory compliance

  • Field survey methodology and applied ecological assessment

Our programs are designed for practicing environmental professionals who require precision, confidence, and defensible expertise in high-stakes conservation contexts.
